Really great classes !!!!

Hi again, this time I 'll contiue the rest of classes that I get and how great they are !!!

Please always remember that my school is one of the best schools all over the country and in such famous city like Luxor it is the best, and it have a great attention and reputation and the minister of education visits it frequently.(so how will it be in other far neglected schools? )

Second class is English language:- I don't think there is one teacher in the whole world like this one, he just hate education, he never said a useful word concerning his job as a teacher of english. He just comes ,write some words on the blackboard then it is over. nothing at all he just sets there, doing nothing, leaving us doing whatever we want. please tell me how ironic these points are:

1- he is a member in a local city board so he has the right to miss whatever classes he want with no question, he always misses one class every four. ( the board supposed to be a volunteer job although it keeps him from doing his job properly HOW?).

2- He actually hate education : I have always read that teachers loved what they are doing so they refuse other jobs that could give more money or prestige but just because they love knowledge and dealing with students they sacrify all this .but, this one NO, he hate education, other teachers, the subject, the students.every thing connected to education, he hates. I don't say he is such bad he might do well in anything else, but in egypt you don't choose your job. she chooses you.

Then comes Biology class: She is the only female in our school, she is so sweet and I like here like a mother, but as a teacher she is a real disgrace, she is so weak in biology that we as students correct here no less than five times every class ( if you know how much she says in total, you will see how bad this is) and the headmaster himself who was a biology teacher said so. therefore, she spend most of the class talking about the journeys she had made around egypt with here husband who is a big rank officer ( but many question marks on this ?????) and the prblems of here two sons and their stories in life, school even romantic ones. then talks with us about the school the teachers, problems, recent events and every possible thing that you could imagine.

I always wonder how did this poor teacher became a teacher? but i remember that this how it is going in egypt.

then become the realistic proof of how bad eduction is?

Physics class: with mr genius, we go to the physics lab where he waits. He doesn't care if we pass the exam or get high grades, or what we write in our notebooks for the supervisor teacher. He only cares that we understand the lesson and love it, he tests our intelligence and make us solve the hard problems and keeping the fun at the same time.

but there comes the problem:
I think good educatin had a simple equation:

good education= good caring teacher + interested student.

but when we have such a great teacher the way we have been learning ,all the way, made most of us unable to think or to open up our minds especially:

1-the system is to study the whole year and do a copy -paste from the books to your mind then reverse it in the final and the only exam and forget all about what you studied, and you will get high grades.

2- no matter how good you are at class, attention, activities even your social activities or cultural informtion. you will never get any credit for this, just the final exam.

so the students says that mr genius is trying to complex things with hard problems that will never come in an exam.

altough he refused many times to be a supervisor teacher to keep dealing with students which he likes most.

This is it, as I got so nervous now

please tell me your comments ,

Egyptian Telmez

Hello all of you, I'll tell you this time about a normal day that I live with education ,of course nothing of what i do in my home after waking up is important to anyone so I won't mention it.

I go to school on foot, I takes less than 10 minutes and I must get there before an exact time (8 am) as they ban any student from entering school after 8 o'clock and no one is allowed to get out untill the end of the day (2:30 pm) -like prisoners - even in the break that lasts for an hour - of course if the sudents and the teachers like the school they wouldn't need to lock them in-. and as if this isn't enough our headmaster had a new invented punishment as he lets the students enter school from 8 to 8:30 put he isolate them in the yard untill the first class period is over so they would be marked as absent and then lock them in school untill the end of the day (the genius absence system in Egypt unlike the whole world -i think- counts the absence of one class as absence in the whole day. So, if you missed a class you hate you will be absent in the others you like) and it allows 28 days of absence in the whole year .

ok.. maybe a strict absence system - regardless the headmaster punishment- is a good thing to keep things in order.but the real problem is that anyone can -with a little bribe- delete his absence . actually in some schools in villages you can with money never show up and never be absent.

After entering school I have to stand for at least half hour for.... i can't find the right translation but we call it TABOUR as every class stand in rows and columns like in the army ,the whole school stands while some students make something like a radio program and some military moves - not because this is a military school this is done in every school in all phases- and at last we salut the flag of Egypt with our anthem and enter the classes with military music and steps.

I have been doing this every day for 11 years of my life and i always wonder what I'll get losing half an hour every day listening to the same things that teachers write for students to say and to do the moves and the standing.

I found two possible reasons:
1- to make us fresh and ready for the new day but does they think that walking or riding a bike at 7 am wouldn't make anyone up and ready.

2- saluting the flag may make us patriots, but is patriotism with saluts -i think not- and how this happen as we see some teachers have no respect for the flag.

( I get so depressed when i write this blog and remeber the school but i hope you don't get bored of this)

finally we enter our classes - notice that we name classes after chambers we study in so we call 3-1 or 2-4 first number indicates the grade you're in and second one indicates the number of chamber so I sudy with the same students in every subject -

first class was arabic language - with el sheikh - we will take poetry this time, arabs were always famous for their skill in poetry and they are always the masters in it. This piece was from modern age about a cruel ruler who was a slave for the british occupation and thought he owned the fate of the people. the piece is wonderful but the way we have to learn it is dreadful. we must memorize the piece like our names and altough the poets life and some skills he showed up using the words.but nothing about what affected the poet, no researches, no books to read, no for using our minds just memorize what is written in the book they gave us.

but I did made reasearches and read book about the poet and I found that he was the mind and the core if one of the most famous revolutions in our modern history and he was like Voltaire for the french revolution. and how this poem brought the life to the revolution but in our educational system he is just an other poet.

What makes it worth that the class was spend over nothing and almost every other class like this:

class lasts for 50 minutes

15 minutes for the arrival of the teacher( altough there is an official 5 minutes for him to come) and in salutes and jokes and cleaning the blackboard.

Then he starts to explain the poem with some jokes for ten minutes every five minutes and no problem to swear and curse the minister of education ( this is a favourite habbit for teachers to show us that they fear of no one. but, when he- the minister- visits the school it is another thing..) and some cursing for us for our stupidity .And absolutely no problem to mention some funny things showing his wisdom that happened to him in the past when he was a student or recently ( he may say the same thing more than ten times but there is no problem as the year is too long and time is with us) and SURPISE the period ends without finishing the lesson but he wouldn't countinue explainig this one again as the year is short and there is NO TIME ?!!!!

well this enough for now and i hope i could write another one without getting a high blood pressure.

Egyptian Telmez

Welcome again, this is my second blog to write, I hope those who had read the first one, liked it. If you hadn't, please read it.

Well, this time I'll tell you about the characters that I deal with through my education in my city's military school.

Well, don't let the word military fools you-you must know that most terms in Egypt are irrelevant – as all we do is to get only one class every week in military science. Mostly, about stupid things. But, as well we spend the class playing in the yard or just setting in the class room – I hope anyone of you could see this view to know how the Egyptian minds are treated – and at the end of the year we pass one exam that we cheat in by the help of the military teachers, every one in the education process (students, parents, teachers, principle even the minister of education) knows about it and nobody does anything.

Oaf , this is a really stupid system , never mind I'll tell you about the most famous teachers in our school especially that I deal with.

All are nicknames
Arabic language teacher : EL–sheikh as he had made the pilgrimage to Mecca, he tries to make himself feeling that he does his best to satisfy his god. But he only fools himself and and we take the consequences .

English language teacher: sleepy, this one knows how the society in Egypt is going, so, he doesn't make any effort to explain anything or to educate his students, he is a member of local city board , so he doesn't show up in school much and he had the right to do so,

Religion teacher: the beast, he is the strongest teacher in the school so he handle the difficult classes, he really does his best to satisfy the god and I like him so much

Economy teacher: worky, he is very good he has been working for only 2-3 years and he tries very hard, but don't let him fools you as he just tries to make a good reputation as this could give him more special classes out of school.

Biology teacher: the only female in our school she is too bad in science, we –studenst- know much more and read much more . but as usual she is just a bad part of a bad system.

Physics: genius, he is simply a genius, he is the best too intelligent but society and circumstances were not fair to him, maybe he didn't try enough , the most bad thing is that he thinks that he is teaching super students which make him so hated in school . but I 'm too close to him and deal with him daily as he is in school responsible for the computer science – don't even think what is the relation you are simply in Egypt – so I'm always with him as I'm one of the best computer users in my school.

Industrial activity : Mr sport. He is the backbone of the school also he is only a teacher he handle many things in school, he has sportmania specially in football so he is responsible for the sport teams in school – please don't ask for the relation or where the sport teacher are?- and he trains them and go with them to the national competitions.

These were the most famous teachers in the school I wouldn't mention the principle and any other they will come at any time.

Ok this is it, I think I'll right a blog every Thursday as Friday is our weekend in Egypt maybe I write more but I promise to write at least one every week

Please, whether you liked the blog or not tell your friends about it as they might find it more interesting.

Egyptian Telmez

Hello all of you, this is my first time to write a blog ,so, i hope you don't mind the mistakes ,be patient and i think you may enjoy reading .you might like the way you get educated but in egypt you could find many ironic things in education. keep reading i pormise you will find it ironic.

what does telmez mean? it means student but in arabic.

I'll introduce myself I'm thebookish - not my name- just call me the bookish I 'm a very smart student as I have always got the best grades - ok maybe i'm writing the blog to prove that the egyptian way of education is worthless and proves no thing about your intelligence - but what about an IQ score of 130 i think this is a good prove

I'm from Egypt ,I'm a student in ( Thanaweya amma) -if you don't know what is it just keep reading- i live in one of the most famous historical cities in the world ,it is Luxor the famous ancient capital of ancient Egyptians .

why i write this blog? it is easy simple i adore egypt . but, the problem that there is alot of things in egypt that should be straighten up. so i hope that this blog makes a different.

so. i will talk about the daily events that happen in my school and wrong things that my friends and i think they should disappear.

I'm in luxor secondary school which is supposed to be the best in luxor-notice how famous luxor is and how many tourists come to it every year and how bad education is going-.

before all, i 'll mention some things about the system of education in egypt to put you in the mode.

Education system in egypt is managed by two misitries ,ministry iof education which is responsible for the pre-university education as well as commercial and industrial education and the ministry of high education responsible for the education in universities . well i follow the first ministry.

In egypt ,education has 3 phases: primary, prepratory and secondary

primary education: 6 years- it used to be 6 years then they made it 5 years ,when i passed it, then 5 years ago it became 6 again ,ironic!!

prepratory education: 3 years then after you finsh it you get the (BASIC EDUCATION CERTIFICATE) and choose between -by your grades not well-between commercial, industrial and secondary education

notice that secondary education only leads to university and it is the most important and most students prefer it but still it's named SECONDARY why ?

you will find so many wrong terms used in egypt so don't be surprised?

secondary education: 3 years ,well this one had a special privacy and system - it is changed at least 2 every decade- but it is the most important.

the first year isn't imporatant at all, actually worthless- i mention my opinoin not the official one- as we study every possible subject that anyone could imagine, about 16 subject all you need is to pass this year grades will make no difference at all.

the other two years is the most important in modern egyptians life as they lead to the university as you only get into college by you grades in "thanaweya amma" if you have a less 0.1 garde from the grade wanted by the college you can not enter .

you have two choose which subjects you will take scientific package or literature package, i choosed scientific, then you have to choose between science or math package, i choosed science

so for me i'll study 5 basic subject in every year ( no term exams) just one exam the whole year just one exam will decide my destiny.

first year 5 subject are: arabic language, english language, french language, maths #1, chemistry
second year 5 subject are : arbic,english,economy,biology,physics

every year i have 2 secondary subject that doesn't count in my final grades religion, national history

long story short is this is the system and believe me it is much more complicated.

this is end for now i'll be writing soon as now we are in midterm vacation

last ironic thing for now is that i only take a vacation because every other students who aren't in thanaweya amma take a vactaion as they take a term exam and i still have to study in it .

i hope you enjoyed reading .
